John,

All groups did have "Reject Automatic Messages" set. However the email that was rejected was an email handwritten from myself, and not an automatic message, so it shouldn't have been rejected at all.

Because all the groups had the same settings, and only one group rejected the message (incorrectly as it wasn't automatically generated), this highlighted the issue and I have temporarily had to turn the "Reject Automatic Messages" setting off for all the groups to stop further rejections.

This never happened (or was never reported) on 5.2.12 but occurred multiple times as soon as we upgraded to 5.2.15 with the same group settings.

Rejecting Automated messages is a per-group feature. Have you checked
to be sure that group.b doesn't have that set?

Hello,

I appear to have had a similar (though a subtly different) problem when
upgrading from 5.2.12 to 5.2.15. My problem with group within group
rejections was more like:

  #group.a
    #group.b
      person1
      person2
    #group.c
      person3
      person4
    #group.d
      person5
      person6

After the upgrade when I sent out an email to "group.a@domain" (which only
contains other groups as members), it got delivered to people 3,4,5,6 but
not people 1 or 2, as it returned an error:

  Failed to deliver to '<group.b@domain>'
  LIST module(group #group.b) reports:
automatically-generated messages are not accepted by this group

It just seems odd how it got rejected by one of the sub-groups but not the
other ones. I have just disabled the reject automatic messages option for
the time being. I presume other people are experiencing issues, as groups
within groups must be quite common?

I thought I would post this info so you know you are not alone in seeing
spurious rejections after upgrading!

CGPro 5.2.14 Group nesting problem

It seems something has changed in the processing of groups in 5.2.14 and
the version we used before that, I think it was 5.2.11.

Make 3 levels of groups like this;
GroupA (contains GroupB)
GroupB (Contains GroupC)
GroupC (Contains users)
personA
personB

Now, if you send a mail to either GroupC or GroupB, the message will come
forward to personA and personB, but if sent to GroupA, the message will be
rejected with an error message "Automatically generated messages are not
accepted by this group (GroupC)"
To test this further we added GroupD and GroupE and moved the users down
to GroupE, and it turned out 2 levels was the maximum possible without
getting an error.

However, if we unchecked the "reject automatic messages" from the group at
the bottom (GroupC in the first example, and GroupE in the last), the
messages came thru fine to personA and personB regardless of what group we
sent the massage to.

Now, we have loads of groups nested in different ways depending on who we
want to reach, so we can't know what group is the last in the chain. We do
want the option of blocking auto generated messages on all groups to prevent
out of office replies and such to the group.

This behaviour is new to this version and it makes no sense at all to me.

Please confirm if this is replicable on other systems to rule out it's
only on our server.
