Yep, that's to be expected...

Settings / Mail / SMTP / Receiving

Modify the "Limits" section according to how many recipients you're
likely to receive in a given period.

Also see

Settings / Mail / Local

Under the "Flow Control" section you'll see settings which apply to
Account message reception and delivery. If your sending server is
hitting one account very hard, the local account queue will be
suspended. If it's authenticating and sending as a local account, then
it may be prevented from sending them all.
