No the issue appears to be with your dns servers. I have seen this with in the past when the dns server get overloaded with request and cannot respond in time. You may want to check you initial dns time out under the obscure settings. Increase the time out to maybe 7 seconds.

I seem to remember someone in the past with the same issue and they had a 1 second timeout.

Hey,

I wanted to see if we could revisit this subject again. I'm still having annoying DNS Server Failed errors on my outbound mail queue. It seems like any messages containing more than a couple recipients get caught up in the Queue for no apparent reason. This happens the most with our mailing lists.

I'm getting strange DNS failures but then when I go into the Monitors / Mail and click on the messages and release the queue it sends. This is obviously very annoying to the mailing list recipients as they continually get WARNING messages for no reason.

09:52:24.269 3 DNR-025995(bradentonherald.com) MX:DNS server failure
09:52:24.269 3 DNR-025991(yourobserver.com) MX:DNS server failure

But if I go and do a nslookup for those domains' MX records, they resolve just fine. If I do nothing I've seen messages sit in the Queue for 3 days without being sent. Is there some setting in the bowels of the CGPro Administrative interface that might be holding these messages up?

Good suggestion! I'll give that a try. I'd been using my AD server but things seem to get a little bound up at times on that due to heavy loads... that's why I changed over to the ISP servers.

I have bonded T1's here also. But I run my own DNS servers and don't rely on a upstream ISP for dns. Another possiblity could also be overloaded DNS servers at your ISP and you have no control over that. It's not hard to setup recursive dns service on a *nix box to bypass your upstream providers servers and provide yourself with another layer of redundancy and caching.

But there's no reason associated with it. Just that it failed.

Some info about my network: I am multi-homed and I have set things up so all DNS requests from my network go out my bonded T1's. So I'm using that ISP's DNS servers primarily.

Have you looked at congestion on your Internet connection? It's
possible
that you are flooding(too many simultaneous outgoing SMTP channels??)
your connection and the UDP packets from the resolver are getting lost.
Are you getting DNS error messages in CGPro's logs when the list is
sending out?

But when I do an nslookup on the domain the person is from, it

resolves fine. And generally if I go into the queue and click Release
Now, it sends the message fine. The problem reported is DNS server
Failure. It's getting pretty annoying. Is there a setting I'm missing
that either will help the bounces stop happening (this particular e-
mail address was a hotmail.com address) or not send a warning after
just one delay or DNS failure? I've tried all sorts of DNS servers,
including 4.2.2.2 but these failures continue.
