X-Mailer: iPhone Mail (1C28)
Pop or IMAP is immaterial both work with the iPhone.

Is your firewall configured to allow the remote traffic?  You should at least get connection attempts in the CHP logs, if you have all logging enabled.

Can your other remote devices connect?

Can the iPhone access web mail?

So, am I to assume that I can't set this up as a POP account? That I have to
use IMAP with SSL?

Here's what I have setup:

- created an account entitled "iphone"
- made sure that the "mobile" option is enabled for the account "iphone" in
the account settings
- checked "allow mobile users to login" under Settings ---> Protection
- "Process as a client IP address" is checked

The iPhone still does not connect and receive mail.

I'm at a loss. I see nothing in the log that an attempt was even made.

For some reason there are settings that you can't
configure and the sync takes care of.  SSL for IMAP and SMTP are
among the settings.

Actually, those settings can both be configured through the phone's Settings
app, under "Mail" on a per-account basis. It defaults to using the standard
IMAPS port (993) but defaults to using port 25 for SMTP; both can be
overridden by appending the port to the end of the hostname, separated by a
colon: "host.example.com:587" for instance.

(I just got my iPhone and went through that problem. My biggest difficulty:
it's hard to type a complex password on the on-screen keyboard. I typoed the
first time and thought I had an SSL problem when it was really just a bad
password.)
