Thanks;

I created /var/CommuniGate/Startup.sh according to the entry at the bottom of http://www.communigate.com/CommuniGatePro/Scalability.html#OS. It contains:

ulimit -d 1048576
ulimit -n 10000

I assume restarting CGP is enough for this to take effect (as opposed to a full server Restart)?

I've got lots of entries like the following:

00:22:02.000 1 LDAP failed to start listener on [0.0.0.0]:636. Error Code=network address/port is already in use
00:22:02.000 1 LDAP failed to start listener on [0.0.0.0]:389. Error Code=network address/port is already in use
and
08:50:44.161 0 SYSTEM server 5.2.3 started under Apple MacOS X Darwin, open files limit=10000
08:50:44.161 0 SYSTEM process core dump limit=195M
08:50:44.161 0 SYSTEM process data size limit=1024M
13:22:34.859 0 SYSTEM server 5.2.3 started under Apple MacOS X Darwin, open files limit=10000
13:22:34.859 0 SYSTEM process core dump limit=195M
13:22:34.859 0 SYSTEM process data size limit=1024M
16:00:39.596 0 SYSTEM server 5.2.3 started under Apple MacOS X Darwin, open files limit=10000
16:00:39.596 0 SYSTEM process core dump limit=195M
16:00:39.596 0 SYSTEM process data size limit=1024M
21:11:17.022 0 SYSTEM server 5.2.3 started under Apple MacOS X Darwin, open files limit=10000
21:11:17.022 0 SYSTEM process core dump limit=195M
21:11:17.022 0 SYSTEM process data size limit=1024M
Does this help?

I've only got a 200-account licence; is this still likely to be an issue?

Why not: the default value is 1024, half will be used for files, so you have only 500 sessions available; one user can open multiple sessions at a time...

Also check for "Crashes only" and "Failures" messages in CommuniGate log for the time when it stops responding.

What should I be looking for in the logs? Any other suggestions?

My first guess it runs out of file descriptors; make sure you had
used the "ulimit -n" to increase the default limit as described in
    <http://www.communigate.com/__CommuniGatePro/Scalability.__html#OS

Also upgrade from 5.2.3 to 5.2.20 from
    <ftp://ftp.communigate.com/__pub/CommuniGatePro/5.2/> or to a newer

version if your license allows that.
