Perhaps - but it is not a fully qualified domain name and therefore is
invalid. Anyway:

Setting an MX record to be an IP address is also invalid! Setting it to
a hostname which resolves to 127.0.0.1 is entirely valid, but it is
*not* the same as making a PTR say "localhost."
